there comes a point in some dudes ceramics careers where they start fucking with glazes so hard they spend their weekends hand digging rare minerals out of a desert deposit or a friend's multi-acre lot so they can grind them up and put them in a glaze. I know at least three guys that do this.
I also knew this guy derrick who was an absolute beast on the wheel (threw an entire 40pc porcelain serving set w/ cups bowls plates serving dishes and casserole dish in ONE HOUR) who also rented out a backhoe so he could dig clay out of his yard and refine it. Unfortunately it had too many inclusions in it so he had to dilute it with industrially made stuff. when he did that though he found that the clay in his yard, when fired, produced it's own glossy green glasslike ooze that vitrified during firing. he called it "self glazing clay", and went back that day to go dig up more. hope hes doing well. I imagine he's excavated his entire property by now

Thank you for commenting because I was going to scroll past this.
obviously fire and ice was written before bluestars prophecy but w the knowledge we have now abt bluestars past i can’t help but think of the scene where fireheart brings cloudkit to thunderclan and how like. bluestar is very angry and cold towards fireheart - he’s been visiting his sister and now brings a kitten into the clan during leafbare, the hardest months - and fireheart, defensive and upset because he’s so tired of thunderclan still judging him, aggravated because he’s trying to help his clan and doesn’t want to let princess down - he just looks at bluestar and asks: “if you had a sister and she trusted you to help her, wouldn’t you do it?” and bluestar is. very quiet. even tigerclaw is quiet and has the “oh, shit” look on his face.

I don't hide the fact that Mapleshade is one of my favorite characters. I think she serves as a cautionary tale of the power grief has... The world pales when its thorns entangle and snare and twist so tightly that even a garden bares no beauty.
In another sense, I also wanted to show the Dark Forest "growing" out of Mapleshade's dying breath. She's enraged and repulsed by it, unaware that the very event that set her down this path will ironically further separate her from gaining any closure.
It's been quite some time since I did one of these, so I hope you like it. I think I've got slightly better at the rendering part but this took me three times as long as previous pieces because of my current work schedule + all the layering it demanded.
i'm bisexual and tired. rb if you're bisexual and tired.
